The beautiful month of May in Paris

Categories : Events, published on : 4/5/17

Spring is really gathering pace now and it seems like the whole of Paris is in bloom. To make things even better, the beautiful month of May has plenty to offer in the capital, and we would like to bring some events and activities to your attention: the Paris Fair, Ice Hockey World Championships and Night of the Museums.

A general trade fair at the Porte de Versailles

The Foire de Paris (Paris Fair) takes place from April 27th to May 8th at the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre. On the agenda are the latest innovations, products and services awaiting your discovery in the three major areas of this huge general purpose trade fair: home, gastronomy, shopping (these sectors include beauty, fashion, well-being, creative leisure, crafts, etc...). This year the Tropics are in the spotlight, along with the culture, crafts and creativity of the whole world. Discover it all by strolling the aisles and browsing the booths where 3,500 exhibitors demonstrate their latest offerings. You’ll discover the secrets of the AOC Graves wine sub-region, learn to prepare a great Mojito, enjoy Cuban music, be amazed by the skills of Moroccan jewellers and much more. There’s entertainment, workshops, a children's space, the Lépine competition and the Grand Prix de l'Innovation… between tastings and demonstrations, you’ll be spoiled for choice!

Ice Hockey at the AccorHotels Arena

The IIHF 2017 Ice Hockey World Championships will be held from May 5th to 18th at the AccorHotels Arena, Bercy. For this 81st edition, 16 countries will participate and 64 matches are scheduled. Belarus and Finland will open the action, followed by a match featuring the Czech Republic in an exciting showdown with the title holders, Canada. Day two will see the French team challenge Norway. Waiting in line to take on the host nation’s team will be Finland, Switzerland, Canada, Czech Republic, Belarus and Slovenia. Whether you are an ice hockey fan or just want to see what all the excitement is about, you’ll enjoy the electric atmosphere and the world-class teams who are making this thrilling sport ever more popular!

Come and spend a night at the museum

The 13th edition of the Night of the Museums will be held this year on May 20th. A very pleasant way to discover or rediscover places of culture during the hours of darkness. Imagine walking along the long galleries of the Louvre, the corridors of the Orsay Museum, or the mezzanine of the Grand Gallery of Evolution at midnight, when silence has fallen on the city and the heavenly vault shines down. Don’t worry, though, Paris will be brightly lit and so will the museums, so you won’t be left alone in the darkness with any creepy ancient artefacts! There will be guided tours, musical concerts and even tastings on the programme. This is also the ideal opportunity to visit the capital’s lesser-known museums, such as Plans-Reliefs, a museum featuring models of fortified cities that were once used for military purposes. This is located in the Invalides. Or check out the Museum of the Prefecture of Police, where you can learn all about weapons, jails, criminals and famous crime cases.
